CONGRATULATIONS LADY COUGARS!

Friday, the Lady Cougars played their most important match of the season.  A win would earn them the final playoff spot in a very tough district 15-5A race.  A loss would make them spectators for the post season.  Their opponent, the Jersey Village Falcons seemed poised and ready to grab their first playoff appearance since 2006.  In the first set, the Lady Cougars came out hitting on all cylinders as they took a 20-10 lead. The Falcons responded, outscoring the Cougars 9-2 to close the gap 22-19. The Cougars finally righted the ship and scored the last 3 points, taking set one, 25-19.

The Falcons bounced back in set two and in a nail-biter, won 26-24 to even the match at 1-1.   In set three, the Falcons came out strong and scored 4 unanswered points and led most of the way through.  The Cougars chipped away and finally took their first lead of the set at 18-17, before closing it out, 25-22.

The Cougars took an early 6-3 lead in set four, before the Falcons outscored the Cougars 7-0 and finished off the set to even up the match 2-2 with a 25-19 victory.  With both teams playoff life on the line, set 5 was a battle to the end. The Cougars finally closed out the match with a 15-12 victory.

The win propels the Lady Cougars into a Bi-District playoff match against the Round Rock Westwood Warriors who are ranked 2nd and 4th in two different statewide polls and are ranked 47th in the nation in the prepvolleyball.com poll.

The Cougars who lost to Westwood in the first round of last years playoffs, are hoping for a strong showing in their re-match with the Warriors. The match will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm at A & M Consolidated High School in College Station.

The Lady Cougars invite everyone to make the short drive to College Station in what hopes to be a very entertaining match.

When Ashley Vrana can see the ball, says Cy Creek High volleyball coach Debbie Jaehne, she can usually kill it.

"Everybody in the gym knew we'd give her the ball if we were in trouble," Jaehne said..

The game wasn’t the only thing on the line. But also the match and the team’s postseason chances.

None of that seemed to bother Cy-Creek High senior outside hitter Ashley Vrana as she recorded three of her four service aces during the final game of a 3-2 victory over visiting Cy Falls on Oct. 13.
