SOCCER: Cy Creek girls reloaded, Cy-Fair boys rebuilding

One of the teams at the top of the 17-5A girls soccer mountain is Cypress Creek. Coach Kathy Fling is making sure her Cougars do everything they can to defend that spot, too.
The 2012 soccer season started last week with an abundance of tournaments and games. The Cy Creek girls were in what could be the toughest tournament - The Woodlands Kilt Cup.
It was there where the Cougars opened the season against state championship-hopeful The Woodlands. It's the perfect scenario for Fling, though. Tough competition in the non-district portion of the schedule only helps.

Cy-Fair roundup: Cougars eye 20th berth

The Houston Chronicle - www.chron.com
Cy Creek girls soccer goes after a 20th consecutive playoff berth this season and a second straight District 17-5A championship after sharing the crown with Cy-Fair last year.
"We missed the playoffs by one spot when they only took two teams in my first year in 1992, but we've been ever since," Cy Creek's 21st-year coach Kathy Fling said. "That's a credit to the outstanding players we've had and all the hard work they put into it."
The Lady Cougars lost most of their defense to graduation, but senior goalkeeper Katie Lehman is among a list a returning starters that also includes senior center midfielder Rachel Swerdon, junior stopper Sarah Parrish, and senior midfielder Kara Simmang, who came on strong in a full-time role after replacing an injured teammate last year.
