When Rashaun Riley was a sophomore on the Cy Creek High boys basketball team, it was difficult to imagine that the Cougars would be playing for a district championship.
“We went to every game like we were going to win,” Riley said. “In past years, we were shaky in some way.”

The Cy Woods High boys basketball team came within a second of surrendering its Class 5A-District 15 championship title to rival, Cy Creek, on Tuesday night.
After Cy Creek senior Robert Goffney hit a pair of free throws to take a 53-51 lead with 5.3 seconds remaining, the Wildcats drove the length of the floor with senior guard Andre Adams finding senior center Carter Nash, who made a layup to tie the game as time expired.

Sometimes, it seems as if football and spring football are the two most popular high school sports in Texas.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that; I grew up as a basketball-first fan in a hoops-crazy town (Sharon, Mass.) just down the road from the home of the greatest basketball professional franchise (the Boston Celtics).

Three-and-a-half years ago, Robert Goffney made a decision that ultimately affected the outcome of Friday’s pivotal Cy Creek vs. Cy-Fair high school boys basketball game.
“Before my freshman year, I had to choose between Cy Creek and Cy-Fair,” Goffney said. “I chose Cy Creek, and I made the right decision.”

The Cy Creek and Klein High boys basketball teams will be making their first playoff appearances since 2007.
The Cougars defeated Cy-Fair, 64-54, at home on Friday in front of a packed gymnasium; Klein clinched the postseason with a 60-40 victory over Klein Collins.

The Cy Woods High boys basketball team stayed in first place with a 69-59 victory over Cy Springs on Tuesday night to improve to 8-1 in Class 5A-District 15 competition.
The defending district champions travel Cy Ranch (0-9) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Wildcats have a one-game lead over Cy Creek (7-2), which won its seventh straight district game, avenging a district-opening loss to Cy Ridge with a 44-34 victory.

The Cy Creek High boys basketball team showcased its depth and versatility Friday night with a 74-70 over visiting Langham Creek.
The Cougars (6-2) won their sixth straight Class 5A-District 15 game
and now trails district leader Cy Woods (7-1) by one game in the district standings.

The Cy Creek High basketball teams swept Cy Springs in a doubleheader Tuesday night at the Berry Center.
The Cy Creek girls defeated Cy Springs, 67-29, and the Cougars boys earned a 76-50 win over Cy Springs.
