Cy-Creek Varsity Cougars Named Houston5ABaseball.com Team of the Week

2011 H5AB / INSIDER BAT Team Of The Week #5

Playing three games in one week is hard enough. Winning three games in one week is brilliant. But winning three games in one week while playing in one of the toughest 5A districts in the state is downright remarkable!

That’s exactly what the Cy Creek Cougars did winning on Tuesday, 17-3 over Cy Ridge; Winning Friday 19-0 over Cy Springs; and Saturday 8-5 over Cy Woods. The three wins have vaulted the Cougars back in the hunt in 17-5A with a 4-2 district record. Cy Creek outscored their opponents 44-8 in week 5 and after a rocky start appear to have righted the ship.

Congratulations to the Cy Creek Cougars!

By Joe Buie
The Tyler Paper - www.tylerpaper.com

In two seasons at Tyler Junior College, outfielder Eric Weiss fell short of his ultimate goal of winning a national championship.

No ring, no trophy, but on Tuesday the TJC graduate received a special parting gift.
The NJCAA named Weiss a first-team All-American after the Houston native batted .402 as a sophomore and committed only one error in center field.

TJC pitcher Jason Jester, who has signed with Texas A&M, made the second team while outfielder Tyler Clakley earned third-team honors in his only season as an Apache.

“That’s awesome … it’s a tremendous honor,” Weiss told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “I was telling my dad that my goal in my two years at TJC was to win a national championship and we got so close.

The Cypress Sun - HCNOnline.com

The Cy Creek High baseball team’s 5-2 victory over archrival, Cy-Fair, on Friday afternoon cemented a milestone for Cougars head coach Michael McCollum and the team’s 10 seniors.

“It’s been a work in progress for the four years since I’ve been here,” McCollum said. “These guys were freshmen when I got here, and it’s all paying off now. They deserve it.”

Two of those 10 seniors weren’t in the Cy Creek lineup last season when they tied for fourth in the district and lost a playoff tiebreaker game by one run to Cy Ridge.
